Wessex Fleet Updates
We celebrated two decades in the driving seat, at our offices on Wednesday, ensuring that any of the staff who weren’t able to attend our 20th anniversary boat trip, could join in. Marking the occasion with cake and bubbles, some staff even decided to join us with their children despite being off on leave for half term, reinforcing what a close knit team Wessex Fleet has become over the years.
Our three founding directors Spencer Blake, Tim McNally and Simon Naylor enjoyed reflecting across two decades, and Tim gave a speech taking us straight back to 2004 as he recalled poignant memories of the world at the time. The business was established during a period of global and economic recovery in the wake of the dot com crash. Facebook had just been founded, and dial-up internet and the trusted fax machine governed the Wessex Fleet office’s first communications in those early days, just before technology underwent rapid growth.
The business began when Tim and Spencer, then part of the senior management team at Enterprise Rent-A-Car, took their knowledge of vehicle management and set up on their own, determined to create an environment where the customer’s experience was at the heart of everything. A third director, Simon Naylor, came on board in year two.
Fast forward to today. Wessex Fleet has over 50 employees and a turnover of £9m, with several propositions under one roof, including retail brand Xcite Car Leasing, Xcite Salary Sacrifice and a network of 11 trusted AR partners across the UK.
Tim sincerely thanked all of the Wessex Fleet team, past and present, for getting the business where it is now. The cake looked amazing and disappeared very quickly (thanks to the culinary prowess of Silver Sieve Cakes)!
Back in September, staff were treated to a 20th anniversary sunset cruise on the Dorset Queen around Poole Harbour, with a barbeque and live music. Thanks to both the Wessex Fleet team and the crew, it was a truly special evening, with excellent entertainment, food and drink.
Spencer said; “I have always thought of Wessex as a family in that we all look out for each other and do our best to support one another in collectively doing our best for customers. If you look after your customers, support and develop your employees, then the profits will take care of themselves.”
Simon Naylor reflected; “To think that 20 years ago, we didn’t know any of the guys that work today, or any of the clients, many of whom are now good friends. It’s been brilliant to see Wessex as not only a business, but a good way to meet some great people.”
