Last month Transport for London (TfL) announced they were suspending their van scrappage scheme due to increased demand and this month they have followed this with the decision to close their HGV scrappage scheme.

They have advised this is due to unprecedented demand and limited funding for the scheme.

This was part of TfL’s plans to help residents and businesses upgrade their vehicles to make them compliant for the coming ultra low emission zone. The HGV scrappage provided a grant of £15,000 for companies upgrading non-compliant HGVs, heavy vans, specialist vehicles, buses or coaches.

New applications are not being accepted but TfL has advised that they will contact operators who have already applied to the scheme to advise on the outcome of their application. TfL will also confirm whether they are eligible for a grant payment, subject to fund availability.

If you have already received a confirmation of eligibility letter from TfL then you can continue to scrap the vehicle and submit the requested evidence to claim your grant payment.

For more information on this you can visit TfL’s website.
