The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) has been shortlisted for a national Counter Terrorism Award.
The association has been shortlisted with the Department for Transport for their work increasing awareness across the vehicle rental sector and helping to mitigate the risk of vehicles being used as weapons.
Following a spate of attacks in the UK in 2017, the BVRLA worked with the Department of Transport to develop its Rental Vehicle Security Scheme. Which is a 10-point code of practise, that requires participating firms to meet a set of requirements, including a commitment to lawfully share data and information with law enforcement.
In 2019 the BVRLA became an approved partner able to monitor and assess compliance against the scheme.
Since their approval the BVRLA has also incorporated all the principles and requirements of the scheme into their mandatory code of conduct for rental and commercial vehicle members of the association.
The partnership has been shortlisted in the Transport Security Award Category, along with Gatwick Airport and Heathrow Airport in the 2020 Counter Terror Awards.
The organisers, Counter Terror Business Magazine, have been recognising organisations and individuals for the last two years through these awards.
With categories that cover everything from communication and cyber security efforts to transport the awards recognise excellence in every aspect of the global fight against terrorism.
The winner of the category will be announced on the 24th of April.
